Girls at the Centre

The Girls at the Centre Program supports girls to make the most of their educational experience.

Girls at the Centre is a mentoring and support program, run by The Smith Family, for Indigenous and non-Indigenous girls at Mount Austin High School. Our aim is to ensure young women get the most out of their education, create opportunities to build aspirations, form positive pathways and goals and develop important life skills.

Girls at the Centre provides girls with on the ground support both in and outside of class through our Girl Coaches. We have a dedicated girls’ only space where students can hang out during their break times, play games, help themselves to snacks and chat to our Coaches.

Participation in the program means that making a commitment to attending Girls at the Centre activities and attending school (at least 90% attendance rate). Girl Coaches will work with girls and their families to achieve this.

Participation in the program also means committing to respectful behaviour towards other students at Mount Austin High School and a code of conduct within the Girls Room and during Girls at the Centre events and activities.

From time to time, there will be other special events and reward activities or trips.
