50th Anniversary 1964-2014

Mount Austin High School developed from humble beginnings in 1964, its first year of operation.

The first year of classes took place in the Kyeamba Smith Hall at the Wagga Wagga Showgrounds as the original school buildings had not been completed. Today Mount Austin High School is a large modern high school that occupies an extensive campus in the suburb of Wagga Wagga now known as Tolland. Mount Austin High School has provided a comprehensive and inclusive quality education to many thousands of students over more than 50 years.

Mount Austin High School has been instrumental in the development of many outstanding Australians in the field of sports, business, music, science, agriculture, politics, education and academia, the legal profession, entertainment and the arts, medicine, television, engineering, building and many other fields. But most of all it has educated more than two generations of Australians who have contributed to society in all its various facets.

For most of us high school was a period of great change; our own self development, highs and lows, new and long lasting friendships, scholastic and social learning, new sports, new ideas, exposure to different viewpoints and challenging relationships, overcoming and confronting change, sparking new interests, sowing the seeds of enquiry, raising our level of awareness. It was our "boot" camp to enter the real world of work, to prepare us for further education, to provide us with the tools to start our journey of life.

When we reflect on our time at Mount Austin High, we all have different stories to tell. For most of us, Mount Austin High School will hold a very special place for its memories, its friendships and for what it gave to us.

We also give thanks to our teachers, who enlightened us to subjects across a wide curriculum. For some of us, the scholastics came easy, to others it was a struggle. Whatever the outcome, our high school years were designed to make us think and develop our talents. "By HAND and MIND" .
