Mount Austin High School has a simple list of classroom rules:
- be on time for class
- enter and leave the room quietly
- be prepared for work
- listen to instructions
- concentrate on your work
- be polite to others
- respect the right of others to work
- look after the school's and other people's property
- do your best.
Values
Values are also taught in the classroom to help our students to:
- develop a love of learning
- pursue excellence and high standards
- develop care and respect for themselves and others
- take pride in their work
- exhibit a strong sense of fairness and social justice
- have respect for and understanding of Australia’s history including the cultures and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first peoples of Australia, and Australia as a multicultural society
- actively participate as citizens.
The NSW Department of Education also maintains a behavior code that must be followed by all students it can be found in the Student Discipline in Government Schools Policy implementation documents.
In NSW public schools students are expected to:
- Respect other students, their teachers and school staff and community members
- Follow school and class rules and follow the directions of their teachers
- Strive for the highest standards in learning
- Respect all members of the school community and show courtesy to all students, teachers and community members
- Resolve conflict respectfully, calmly and fairly
- Comply with the school's uniform policy or dress code
- Attend school every day, unless legally excused
- Respect all property
- Not be violent or bring weapons, illegal drugs, alcohol or tobacco into our schools
- Not bully, harass, intimidate or discriminate against anyone in our schools
Any behaviour that infringes on other people’s safety such as harassment, bullying or any illegal behaviour will not be tolerated at our school.
